16x20x1 Air Filters: MERV 8, 11 & 13, Delivered on Schedule

Looking for a 16x20x1 air filter? 16x20x1 is a common size for smaller returns and some hallway grilles. If your home has more than one return, count them all before you order.

Every Draynix 16x20x1 filter is a 1-inch pleated AC and furnace filter in your choice of rating: - MERV 8: everyday dust and pollen control, fine for every system. - MERV 11: finer capture, including pet dander, when your system allows. - MERV 13: the finest of the three; check your system manual first, since some older systems prefer less restriction.

Frequently asked questions

How often should I change a 16x20x1 furnace filter?

For a 1-inch pleated filter, plan on every 1–3 months. Change it monthly in heavy cooling season, with pets, or during construction dust. Check it monthly and replace it when it looks gray. The Filter Plan ships monthly (20% off) or every 3 months (10% off), so the next one shows up before you need it.

What is the actual size of a 16x20x1 filter?

"16x20x1" is the nominal (rounded) size printed on the frame. The true dimensions usually run about ½ inch smaller on length and width, and the frame is a little under 1 inch deep. Order by the nominal size printed on your current filter, not a tape-measured slot. Not sure? Use Find Your Filter.

Can I use a 16x20x1 instead of a 16x25x1?

No. Length and width have to match the slot, not just the depth. A 16x20x1 is 5 inches shorter than a 16x25x1, so it would leave a gap where air and dust go around the filter. Use the size printed on your current filter, or the Find Your Filter quiz. We carry both: see the 16x25x1 page.

Can I use a 16x20x1 instead of a 16x20x4?

No. Filter depth has to match your filter slot or cabinet. A 1-inch filter in a 2- or 4-inch slot leaves gaps, so air bypasses the filter and dirt reaches the coil. Draynix currently sells 1-inch filters only, so if your slot is deeper, check with your HVAC tech.
